The ECCD Program mainly engages with children born in prison or are still too young to be separated from their mothers who are serving their sentence and it has been developed to ensure all children have quality access to early childhood development and care. The intention has been to educate and equip these children with tools that will empower them. Children in prison have often been referred to as forgotten victims of crime, and the invisible victims of crime and the penal code. One which shields them from the dangers of being raised solely in the environment behind bars, to promote stable and caring relationships between the mother and her child, essential to a healthy early development
