Life in prisons in developing countries is not easy, there is low priority on the function of prisons due to a lack of resources, staff shortages and the public perception that prisons serve as places of punishment, rather than rehabilitation. Unfortunately, this is to the detriment of people who have often had few opportunities in life and it contributes to high rates of re- offending and related financial and societal costs. With your support Human Dignity Tanzania can fully concentrate on setting up rehabilitative projects in prisons to provide prisoners with the skills to become self-reliant and to develop a positive and productive lifestyle after prison so as to enhance services capacity levels such as rehabilitation and preparation for reintegration with the community.
