Women constitute a vulnerable group in prisons, due to their gender. They face unique challenges compared to their male counterparts. Women are confronted with unique challenges related to menstruation; pregnancy and childbirth and care for children inside prison, their special needs are rarely taken into consideration. Ideally, Human Dignity Tanzania was introduced to cover the gap and make sure that in prison the social needs of woman prisoners are respected, woman prisoners and children at remand homes are treated humanely and compassionately and their time in detention is used to prepare them for life outside of prison.
We work holistically to support some of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged communities by ensuring equitable access to social needs, health, and education. By helping people to realize their rights we can empower the change-makers themselves. Together we can inspire and lead positive social transformation.
Since prisoners are one of the least-reached groups in the world, locked away, isolated, and vilified. Together with Tanzania Prisons Service and other partners, we will define areas of need within the prison population of each prison and deliver transformational, culturally appropriate programming.
