Drug use and excessive alcoholism (drug prevention and treatment) Program

To tackle drugs, we need to keep constant contact with on the ground knowledge and expertise drug abuse. Drug abuse and alcohol has emerged as a serious socio- economic problem among youth community in Tanzania. We at Human Dignity Tanzania have observed that children and youth who are out of school or have no extra-curricular activities are especially prone to be tempted by drug dealers.

As the first step, we shortlisted areas where the problem exists or can arise. We visited the areas and connected with the youth. We have formed football and jogging teams from among the locals and made football playing ground at Kibiti. Also we managed to donate balls for playing football. Our three-pronged strategy for the drug issue are:-

  • Use sports to keep the young away from drugs and help them canalize their energies for personal and economic growth.
  • Building awareness and educating people about the ill effects of drug abuse.
  • Dealing with the addicts through programme of motivational counselling, treatment, follow-up and social-reintegration of recovered addicts.
  • To impart drug abuse prevention/rehabilitation training to volunteers with a view to building up an educated cadre of service providers

We Human Dignity Tanzania, we share a common concern that illicit drug use is undercutting traditional values and threatening the existence of stable families, communities, and government institutions throughout the world. Our aim is to strengthen prevention, increase access to treatment and promote recovery.
